Old but NEW..

Just got my new toy last Saturday, the Canon EOS 10D. Yes for those of you who know, it is a 8 years old camera that was introduce at the year 2003! The reason is for my backup body for my Canon EOS 400D. Technologically it might be few years behind but for the price i got it, it is worth some thing. Here are the picture shots with it.

ETTL rocks!!

Last Saturday, Lye Kong, Jason Tay, Siew Siew , Tze Teng and me went down to Penang Island to do two things. The first is to support Lye Kong and Jason Tay in representing Jaya in SUKAT. While the other is to go purcase the Canon Speedlite 580 EX 2 for Tze Teng’s system!

We head out around 7am and we were at the USM main campus’ swimming pool around 8am.. We took some picture here and there!! We had some photography fun then..

The teeth belong to Siew Siew!!

After that we hed out to Komtar area to hunt for the 580ex2. After a long scout, we manage to find the flash system at Foto EasyCam beside Click N’ Snap. We had a good chat with the uncle and aunty there and I’ve learn a few trick or so!

After we got the flash, there was no hesitation is using it! Tze Teng was playing with it even as we took our late lunch. After that we went to Gurny to try out some ETTL system stuff!! The result was, it rocks!!
First try out with the High Flash Sync function

First try with the ETTL function and High speed sync to pull out the back ground but yet allow enough light for the subject using a slave flash. Master flash did not fire..

Nicer tone and shadow!

Still Learning..

Tze Teng, Jason Tay, Me, Siew Siew, Lye Kong

On the following day, me and Tze Teng took the afternoon to try out this new dimension of flash photography! The picture that we got was not as good as those of the lighting expert such as Louis Pang and others… Most of the picture was taken by Tze Teng and I was the slave man!! Hahah… But it is a good start I guess! A Master and a frind, Tze Teng in action!!

After much trial and error.. Thank God for those hardships.. Now we Bring you this.. Hear are some basic step to set up this flash photography..

Get the metering of the back ground. My exposure compensation setting is -1 here (using M mode). to get more dramatic effects of the back ground just tone down to -2. Varies to the lighting.

Put in the subject into the picture (without the slave flash firing). subject will be dark.

Now, with the Slave flash fired! note that the master did not fire. see the different??

Too close to the flash.. Cause over expose on the subject.

Pull back the subject to get a balance lighting..

Playing with shadows..

So hope this helps you guys who is learning out there. Thank God for all his wisdom and also Little Potato for letting me spend time on this.. Thank you dear! Hug hug..
