After getting my new flash to replace my old faulty Canon Speedlite 420EX TTL Flash. On Saturday I head down to Pudu Plaza together with Russell and Justin after bass practice with Julius. So I’ve learn this from the internet (this strobist photography). I’m not sure how to pronounce this word “strobist” is it”strob-ist” or …? Anyway here are some pictures taken of my faithful little companion from my childhood time. As for the experience for that day, It was a shopping spring for me to go down to Pudu Plaza as I spend some money on LED lights and flash..

Plan to get one more flash unit to fill up my wireless flash trigger. Below are the overview settings and equipment of the miniature strobist season that I had.

Here are some of the essential tools for a strobist setting shooting:

LED lights x 2 - really helpful to light up dark spots, in short create softer shadow

Corrugated board - creates a softer lighting since I don’t have any soft box of any kind

Phottix Tetra – wireless trigger in order to use multiple flash fires. One may use ETTL or CLS if you have the money to do so.

Flash x 2 – one Canon 580EXII and YongNuo YN460 (this is a manual flash, that’s why it’s cheap)

Camera – of cause!!

A1. Flash 1 on the left (same level with the subject), flash 2 on top of the subject. 2 LED light at the back to separate give a glowing effect (in turn separate the subject with the background). Note that there is a hard down cast shadow at the leg of the dog.

A2. Flash 2 is turn off giving a gloomy effect.

A3. Both flash are turn off. Seed here that the picture looks bull as LED itself is unable to light up the stage.

A4. The LED at the back is turn off, while another LED is place at the sight side of the subject.

A5. Flash 1 is turned off to give a spotlight effect.

A6. Similar to A3 just the placing of LED 2 is placed top front of the subject. This is better to A3 as your subject are seen even it was poorly lit.

Do take note that both flash are set to manual mode as this trigger is just a TRIGGER. So it does not support E-TTL. Options such as Pocket wizard, Nikon CLS, Canon wireless E-TTL enable you to do so. Thus, both flash are set to 1/64 and 1/128 (flash output power).

I was asked by Mason to take his wedding not as the main photographer but as a “sub” photographer. The assignment that was given to me was not to cover so much of the main event but as a “sub” to cover the behind the big day. It was an eventful weekend where I got to witness a friend’s wedding. I’m not sure I was invited to the wedding dinner or not, as I don’t know how to ask. So there was non of the photos of the dinner.

I was involved in an accident as I was on the way to the house where the flower was being prepared. That was the really hard time for me to recover. Thank God for his grace and of cause my little Potato was beside me. I cried before I went to do the shooting as I was feeling sad and powerless. On the wedding day, I almost got my fingure cut out.. haih~~ Thank god for all i'm still safe and well. Glory to his name.

For the process of the pixs, post processing was put to the minimum. All in all, I’ve learned some new tactic to shoot. Still learning to manage the distortion of my Canon 10-22mm and my double flash method. Oh ya..
